At yesterday’s amfAR New York Gala, Lady Gaga arrives in what seems to be a pearl-decked outfit. Of course her hair and makeup had to match.
The Red Carpet
Grammy Red Carpet Shockers
What’s a Grammy show without those who’d dare stun us with their choice of threads, crazy antics, or mere celebrity presence? Read on to see why these five stars incurred a little gasp from yours truly.
Was that a supernova? A planetarium constellation? A walking hurricane? Oh, Lady Gaga, you never cease to amaze me. This was just one of the exclusive Armani Privé ensembles she put on that night.
The punk-rocker is now a lady! Pink surprised everyone with her crystal-encrusted degradé gown.
Sorry, Imogen Heap. Nobody can ever outdo Lady Gaga, but you gave it a good shot.
Ladies and gentlemen, Ricky Martin is alive! I repeat, Ricky Martin is back!
Glambert rocked, as usual. Why, Adam Lambert could wear a real vampire’s costume from the 1800s and still make it look hot.
Who is Shaila Durcal, or better yet, what in the world was she wearing?!
I give David and Cathy Guetta the “rocker couple of the night” award.
Oh, Britney. Your see-through, black lace Dolce & Gabbana dress over a bodysuit and fishnet stockings just wasn’t cutting it.
Did Ciara just have a chat with Britney before heading to the Grammys?
Grammy Awards Best Dressed
Last night’s gathering of entertainers brought out a new trend for red-carpet dressing. Perhaps it’s the 2010 bug where fashionistas are out to challenge the conventional “glam-glam-glam” mantra. Here are my top 10 picks for the Grammy’s best dressed, in no particular order.
As Fergie posed with the rest of the Black Eyed Peas, her cobalt blue Emilio Pucci mini was simply Fergilious.
Miley Cyrus was definitely ready to “Party In The USA” with her teal Hervé Léger by Max Azria dress.
Carrie Underwood sure had a penchant for straps that night. Her Edition by Georges Chakra gown looked great, especially when she received her Best Country Collaboration award.
Before the show, Katy Perry tweeted: “[sic] I’m excited 4 today, all the performances r going to be fab & beauty is gonna be on point! Today I’m channeling Indian Betty Paige princess!” It looks like her Zac Posen dress did the job.
Multi-winner Taylor Swift glittered, literally, with her off-shoulder KaufmanFranco gown.
Sleeves are back on the red carpet style radar. Beyonce, who got the most nods at the Grammys, stood out with her detailed fishtail gown.
Rihanna brushed off rumors that she was blacklisted from the Grammys. Her Elie Saab Haute Couture gown made the feathered collar a must-have fashion detail.
Jennifer Nettles of The Sugarland gets a little help from Posh Spice with this Victoria Beckham cutout dress.
Hot mama Heidi Klum’s nude Emilio Pucci minidress stood out, thanks to the stylish embellishments.
Newbie singer Chantel “Chani” Christie’s bodice minidress spelled hot.

DGA’s Best Dressed
It’s not always about the Oscars and Emmys. There are other less-known award shows where stars go to show off their best threads. At last Saturday’s Directors Guild of America Awards, some celebs made our heads turn with their choice of ensembles.
Broadway-star-turned-TV-celeb Lea Michele is getting the hang of red carpet events. The Glee actress knew just what to do with a nude gown—glam it up with scarlet lips.
For a second there, I thought the caption read Zoe Kravitz. Look who’s channeling her inner fashionista. Zoe Saldana goes wins points with this printed minidress.
Slumdog Millionaire’s Freida Pinto sparkles in this one-shoulder Zac Posen number.

SAG Awards: Best in Prints
I’m getting quite tired of the predictable jewel tones and monochrome gowns that the stars usually wear to awards shows and red carpet events. For last Saturday’s SAG Awards, my picks for best dressed were the stars who donned prints and beads.
True Blood’s Anna Paquin strayed away from the dark side with her printed Alexander McQueen dress.
Award presenter Michelle Monaghan sparkled in a one-shoulder gun metal, beaded Calvin Klein gown.
Although I love Meryl Streep’s belted printed gown, I’d do without those sunglasses.
Nicole Kidman (third from left) took a break from her usual monochrome red carpet gowns and slipped into a sequined and embroidered Oscar de la Renta gown. Here, she is onstage with fellow actresses (L-R) Marion Cotillard, Kate Hudson, and Penelope Cruz.
Sandra Bullock not only won Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role for The Blind Side, but also got the fashion police’s nod in this black and blue-trimmed Alexander McQueen gown.
