Before Kim Cattrall was a Sex and The City gal, she started off as a blonde ’80s bombshell. Remember the 1987 flick, Mannequin? I can hear Jefferson Starship’s “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now” playing in my head.
The pop flick is about a young artist named Jonathan Switcher (played by Brat Packer Andrew McCarthy) who builds a mannequin that’s so perfect he actually falls in love with it. The mannequin ends up in the window of a big department store. When he saves the life of an old lady who happens to be the owner of that store, he is rewarded by getting a job there as stock boy. The mannequin soon comes to life as Emmy (Kim Cattrall), who turns out to be an ancient Egyptian who lived in the year 2514 BC. View the trailer here:
Mannequin (1987)
There was even a sequel, Mannequin: On The Move in 1991 starring Kristy Swanson as the picture-perfect doll and William Ragsdale as the lad/prince who falls for her.
Mannequin: On The Move (1991)
Various gossip websites have leaked that Gladden Entertainment is developing the modern-day version of Mannequin. The more contemporary version will have the cutie pie lead falling for a display hologram. The execs are still looking for a writer, so don’t expect the flick to be out anytime soon.
I wonder who’d make a fitting blonde, long-legged, picture-perfect mannequin? Megan Fox, Mischa Barton, Taylor Swift, and Sara Paxton top my list, while Chace Crawford, Zac Efron, and Taylor Lautner fit the pretty-boy-in-love-with-a-hologram peg.
Who would you cast for the remake of Mannequin?
