No celebrity likes the intrusion of the paparazzi, but in the world of celebdom you have to take the good with the bad. 2003 saw Coldplay’s Chris Martin arrested in Australia for smashing a journalist’s car windscreen however the charges were later dropped. This was followed in 2008 with another attack on a journalist outside a New York hospital. Martin wasn’t the first celebrity to attack a member of the paparazzi, in 1972, Mick Jagger and friends were arrested for obstructing justice after fighting with a journalist. Despite pleading guilty, they were released and charges dropped.
The self-proclaimed ‘world’s first supermodel’, Janice Dickinson was one of the most successful models of the 1970’s & 80’s earning up to $2,000 per day. Despite her successful career, Dickinson has since told of how she suffered abuse at the hands of her paedophile father in her autobiography, ‘No Lifeguard on Duty’. She also talks of her torment with alcoholism, anorexia and bulimia. Following Dickinson in the 1990’s was “anti-supermodel” Kate Moss. Noted for the “heroin chic” look for a 1993 Calvin Klein campaign, Moss’s private life has been well documented in the media. 1995 saw the Daily Mirror run a front-page story about Moss snorting cocaine. This caused her to loose contracts with Dior, Burberry and H&M however she has since gone on to design a successful range of clothes for TopShop and continues to have a successful modelling career.
