Wesley Snipes surrendered himself today at the Federal Correctional Institution McKean in Bradford, Pennsylvania. Snipes checked in at noon EST time and will serve a 36-month sentence stemming from his three different April 2008 misdemeanor charges for failing to file federal income tax returns.
Snipes attempted to delay his sentencing for as long as possible by filing three separate appeals and a request for a new trial, all of which were denied. Snipes’ lawyers claimed that jurors in the original hearing had already made up their minds before the case began.
Snipes also requested that he be allowed to report to prison starting on January 6 so he could spend the holiday’s with his family which includes three young children, a request that was denied. His holiday appeal was denied because the judge stated that Wesley had plenty of time to prepare his children “for the impact that his incarceration will have upon members of his family.”
Snipes, despite acknowledging not filing his income taxes, blamed all his self created problems on a “failed legal system.”
