Lionel Richie

It finally happened. Last month, Lionel Richie revealed his plans to do a remake of “We Are The World.” In 1985, the star-studded music video and single was produced to benefit African famine relief. For 2010, the singers are doing for Haiti earthquake victims.
Quincy Jones helped Lionel mastermind the charity single, which coincides with the 25th anniversary of the original release. The recording wrapped up last Monday in LA, and there were over 80 singers in attendance, including: Celine Dion, Gladys Knight, Miley Cyrus, The Jonas Brothers, Jason Mraz, Nicole Scherzinger, Justin Bieber, Kanye West, Selena Gomez, Wyclef Jean, Jennifer Hudson, Will Smith, Sheryl Crow, Mya, Pink, Barbra Streisand, Jordan Sparks, and Julianne Hough.
The song will be available for download on February 7, while the 3D video will premiere during the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics later this month. All proceeds from the sale of the song will benefit the victims of the Haiti earthquake.
Lionel Richie Remakes “We Are The World” For Haiti
Remember this famous 1985 video? “We Are The World” was written by Quincy Jones with the late Michael Jackson, and single’s proceeds went to African famine relief. The music video featured an all-star cast, including Lionel Richie, Diana Ross, Bruce Springsteen, Bette Midler, Bob Dylan, Cyndi Lauper, and Billy Joel. The recording took place during the American Music Awards on January 28, 1985.
According to Wenn, Lionel Richie plans to re-team with Quincy Jones to produce a 2010 remake of “We Are The World,” this time for the benefit of Haiti earthquake victims.
I wonder which musicians they’re tapping for the remake. I’d love to see Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake, Janet Jackson, and Beyonce, to name a few.
