I finally saw Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief last night. I’ll leave the intellectual snobbish reviews to the other critics. Instead, let me focus on my dingy, worn-out pair of Chuck Taylor High Tops; I want them to mutate and grow wings.
If you’ve already seen the movie, you’ll know that I’m talking about the cool Converse Chuck Taylor All-Star Canvas High Top Sneakers that Percy Jackson used in many of the scenes. What gave it the cool factor is that it has wings to enable the user to fly. Throughout the movie, all I could think about was: Which mythical god should I pray to so that I could snag a pair?
It’s too bad the Percy Jackson crew wasn’t the original creator of the winged sneakers. Early last year, I remember browsing through Nylon and seeing JS Wings, a.k.a. the Jeremy Scott collection for Adidas. The sneaker comes with removable metallic leather flaps, and you could pick from different colors and designs, such as Swarovski, Rainbow, and the bestseller JS Wings in gold. Sneaker freaks everywhere went berserk!
Do you think Converse would soon collaborate with 20th Century Fox to create a limited edition Chuck Taylor collection? I’d like to place my reservation now, please! Maybe I should just give Hermes a call. I hear he a few pairs to spare.
