The Harry Potter kids have a life outside of Hogwarts, after all. Rupert Grint, famous for his role as Ron Weasley, has managed to venture out of the Harry Potter typecast. He did the movie Driving Lessons in 2006, and although his heartwarming teenage role was okay for film critics, he still needed a defying role to complete his growing up process.
Finally, there’s Cherry Bomb. Not to be confused with the hit song of The Runaways, Cherry Bomb is a movie about troubled teenagers experimenting with drugs and sex. Rupert plays the lead character Malachy, who embark on a wild weekend of drink, drugs, shoplifting, and stealing cars with his friends.
The 21-year-old admitted that the hardest part about shooting the film was doing a sex scene with his costar Kimberly Nixon. “Shooting the sex scene was a pretty anxious time because I didn’t know how it would be shot,” he said. “It’s the anticipation that scares you most.”
What’s worse, he had to view the movie with his parents. “When the scene arrived, we all sat there not really saying anything,” Rupert said. “Afterwards nobody talked about it, which was kind of a relief.”
Cherry Bomb will reportedly be released this summer, months before the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I. Will you go see it?
