Barbara Walters Ready To Return To ‘The View’

Barbara WaltersIt’s been nearly two months since Barbara Walters underwent heart valve surgery and now the founding member of the popular woman’s talk show “The View” is set to return to the program.

The 80-year-old host will return on July 12th, although that appearance will be marked only by a Skype video call rather than an actual show visit. No further return has been announced by the shows studio ABC.

Walters is still resting and recuperating from her operation and “retired” from her pre-Oscars interviews after this years Academy Awards.

It’s good to hear she’s doing okay. Keep on tickin’ Barbara, plus please do something about Whoopi…pretty please!

Barbara Walters Out of Surgery; Regis Philbin Going In

Barbara Walters, who only just announced her heart valve surgery on this past Monday’s edition of The View, has already undergone the operation, Wednesday, and has been released. She’s said to be recovering quite well and her heart surgeons are pleased with the results. Her recovery period will be anywhere from 1-3 months, and she plans on returning to TV in the fall.

Eighty year-old Walters isn’t the only aging TV talk show host to undergo surgery. Regis Philbin, host of Live with Regis & Kelly and occasional host of Who Wants to be a Millionaire?, will go under the knife for a blood clot that appeared after a hip replacement operation last December. His operation will be next Tuesday. He’s previously had triple-bypass heart surgery in 2007. Good luck, Regis. It’s easy to goof on Barbara Walters and her slight lisp because she’s such a big, influential celebrity in her own right. But when it comes right down to it, Walters really is a respected TV journalist and host, evoking emotions from celebs that no one else seems capable of. So we’re pulling for when she undergoes heart valve surgery later this week.

Walters, now 80, says that she’s always been healthy and never missed a day of work. On The View today, she said that she’ll be in surgery to “replace one faulty heart valve” — something she’d kept secret up until today. She admitted to her co-hosts, who just found out about the surgery, that she hadn’t wanted to discuss it too far in advance. The timing of the surgery was something Walters picked, to coincide with summer, the recovery period of 1-3 months, and back to the show for September.

Walters, who has been with The View since 2002, and her co-hosts all received a Daytime Emmy Award in Aug 2009. Best of luck, Barbara.
