Spirit Award nominations are out! Spirit Award nominations are out! Okay maybe you aren’t as excited as I am and to be honest I could give a rat’s left cancer-filled testicle about them, but if you are in the business of trying to predict Oscar nominations, then the Spirit Awards are a good indication.
Someone give me a drum solo…and the nominees are:
Best Feature
- The Last Station
- Precious
- (500) Days of Summer
- Amreeka
- Sin Nombre
Best Female Actress
- Maria Bello – Downloading Nancy
- Nisreen Faour – Amreeka
- Helen Mirren – The Last Station
- Gabourey Sidibe – Precious
- Gwyneth Paltrow – Two Lovers
Best Male Actor
- Jeff Bridges – Crazy Heart
- Colin Firth – A Single Man
- Joseph Gordon-Levitt – (500) Days of Summer
- Souleymane Sy Savane – Goodbye Solo
- Adam Scott – The Vicious Kind
Best Director
- Ethan and Joel Coen – A Serious Man
- Lee Daniels – Precious
- Cary Joji Fukunaga – Sin Nombre
- James Gray – Two Lovers
- Michael Hoffman – The Last Station
How G.I. Joe and Jennifer’s Body don’t make this list is beyond me. Those are the only two movies I even cared to see this year and if this organization can’t recognize their brilliance then I am uncertain of the legitimacy of these nominations. It doesn’t matter I guess. I am cheering for Cary Joji Fukunaga because the name is beyond awesome and it’s cool to know that an Asian sounding person directed a Spanish flick. It is similar to when people see me driving. They cheer me on because I have no eyes.
And for some reason my nose covers my belly button. Don’t ask.
