Santa Barbara Senior Deputy District Attorney Lee Carter told E! News:
“We can confirm that we received word that they were detained in British Columbia,” adding “Upon hearing the news from Canada, the court raised their bail to $500,000 each.”
Apparently the Quaid’s were in Canada to receive a film critics group award, at least that’s what Randy Quaid said at a Canadian Immigration and Refugee Board hearing:
“I love Canada” and “It’s been a very welcoming nation to me. I would not do anything to besmirch my reputation.”
Evi on the other hand said they were in Canada because they felt persecuted in the United States:
“We feel our lives are in danger,” she said, while telling the hearing board that their friends, including David Carradine and Heath Ledger had been “murdered” which of course has proven not to be the case in either death.
The couple also released a joint statement in which they said:
“We are requesting asylum from Hollywood star whackers.”
This case just keeps getting more strange by the day.
