After much teasing and guessing among fans, BBC finally unveiled who’ll be playing the next Doctor – Peter Capaldi.
The British channel presented the actor via a live TV special, where he’ll portray the Twelfth incarnation of the iconic character.
“Being asked to play the Doctor is an amazing privilege. Like the Doctor himself I find myself in a state of utter terror and delight. I can’t wait to get started,” Capaldi excitedly shares.
On 2014, he will take over the reins of Matt Smith, the 11th Doctor, who will star for the last time in an upcoming Christmas special.
According to BBC, Capaldi actually did a secret audition at Steven Moffat‘s house, where they instantly felt that he was their guy.
Moffat, the lead writer and executive producer, gushes, “It’s an incendiary combination: one of the most talented actors of his generation is about to play the best part on television. Peter Capaldi is in the TARDIS!”
Capaldi also has an impressive body of work to boot, both released and upcoming.
He starred in a critically-acclaimed role on “The Thick of It”, “The Hour”, and made an appearance in “World War Z“. He even appeared on a 2008 episode of Doctor Who as
Caecilius! (Interesting.)
Aside from his forthcoming stint as the Doctor, he’s also set to play the villainous Cardinal Richelieu on next year’s “The Musketeers“, “The Fifth Estate”, and Disney’s “Maleficent“.
