Miley Cyrus recently announced that she’s staying away from the country music genre that has defined her all these years.
The actress told Parade magazine last month: “It feels contrived on so many levels.” Her dad Billy Ray Cyrus agreed that she should start ditching the cowboy hats and boots.
She is releasing a new album this summer, and as promised, there will be zero country. “It’s kind of poppier, but then it still has an edge,” the 17-year-old told MTV. “My new record has more of a techno vibe on some stuff.”
It looks like she’s going down the Leighton Meester/ David Guetta collaboration route. That doesn’t sound so bad, seeing that she’s keener on her movie career now. “[After my summer album], I want to take a step back from music for a while,” she explained. “I want to continue to do film. Later in life, another record. But for now, I’d like to focus on movies.”
