Singer Melissa Etheridge likes to mix it up from time to time and now we’ve learned that she will soon join the Green Day rock opera American Idiot for a full week of performances.
According to the The New York Times Etheridge will perform in the show at St. James Theater from Feb. 1 through Feb. 6 in the role of “St. Jimmy.” The role of St. Jimmy is currently being played by Green Day lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong.
Michael Mayer, the show’s director told the paper:
“Billie Joe and I always believed that it would be incredible to have a woman take on the role of St. Jimmy. This character is seductive, thrilling and dangerous. Melissa Etheridge is all that and so much more.”
Big names on Broadway has become a rather routine venture, CNN’s Anderson Cooper will narrate How to Succeed in Business (Without Really Trying) which features the acting styling of Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe.
It will be interesting to see how Etheridge pans out, however with such a gender neutral role, I assume her voice will carry her just fine.
