Little Fockers took the top spot at the box office this weekend, beating out big budget films Tron: Legacy and Gulliver’s travels. The movie was bolstered by strong a family friendly audience, while the other family friendly movie Gulliver’s Travels failed to impress in any facet.
The Ben Stiller and Robert DeNiro helmed movie, the third in the Meet The Parents franchise took in $34 million and approximately $48 million since opening last Wednesday.
To put the movies weekend take into perspective, the first movie Meet The Parents took in $28.6 million during it’s opening weekend, while the three movies combined have so far earned $850 million worldwide.
On the other side of the spectrum, Tron Legacy took in $20.1 million, a 54 percent drop compared to the previous week. Tron: Legacy has so far brought in $80 million in the United States, with an international take of approximately $153.8 million, not quite the powerhouse movie gross Disney had hoped for, but still not a total loss.
With rave reviews the Jeff Bridges helmed movie True Grit, the newest Coen Brothers movie came out swinging with $25.6 million dollars, not a bad take for a darker movie during the cheery holiday weekend.
