Leonardo DiCaprio, through his production company, has won the rights to Legacy of Secrecy:The Long Shadow of the JFK Assassination a book that claims the mafia was at the heart of John F. Kennedy’s 1963 assassination.
Reps for DiCaprio confirmed the actors purchased of the books rights which will be produced by Warner Bros.
Apparently DiCaprio’s father George introduced the book to him years ago and he was excited to get his hands on the rights to the novel.
According to Eonline:
DiCaprio will play FBI informant Jack Van Laningham who, according to recently declassified FBI files, took part in a dangerous undercover operation to infiltrate the mafia organization of crime boss Carlos Marcello, who was active in Texas and Louisiana during the 1960s.
In his role as an informant, Van Laningham alleged Marcello confessed to him that he was behind Kennedy’s murder and that he even had a hand in the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. and the Watergate scandal.
Legacy of Secrecy won’t be out for a while, current plans put the movie in theaters sometime in 2013, just in time for the 50th anniversary of JFK’s assassination.
