House star Hugh Laurie has signed a record deal with Warner Music Group in which he will release a New Orleans-inspired blues album featuring the vocals and piano styling of the five-time Emmy nominee.
Laurie will be working with a team of guest musicians for his freshmen album which will be produced by Grammy winner Joe Henry, who has worked with Elvis Costello, Ani Di Franco and Wainwright III.
Laurie has played various charity events with other TV actors in his aptly named band Band From TV.
The TV doctor said of the newly inked deal:
“I am drunk with excitement at this opportunity,” Laurie said in a statement. “I know the history of actors making music is a checkered one, but I promise no one will get hurt. I am particularly thrilled to be working with Joe Henry, who has produced some of my favorite records of all time, and I can’t wait to get started.”
If you’ve heard him play, you know the self-taught musician is serious about and loves music, as a blues fan I personally look forward to hearing what he puts out.
