Were you excited to take in the free Jay-Z concert at the Ed Sullivan Theater? Unfortunately that excitement is all you’ll get. New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced today that the Jay-Z performance was canceled after issues arose at a recent free concert by Drank and Hanson.
The incident occurred when 15,000-20,000 shouting fans tried to shove their way into Manhattan’s South Street Seaport for a free concert. The crowds actions left dozens injured after the show leaked online.
The free Jay-Z show was meant to be a secret, but like the Drake/Hanson show details were leaked and city officials feared another riot type atmosphere could be created.
A rep from the Mayor’s office released the following statement:
“Many permits are granted on the condition that the event is not made public beforehand for capacity and security reasons. This event was made public.”
In the meantime I’m sure you can catch a Jay-Z concert sometime in the near future…if you’re willing to pony up big money for today’s ticket prices…sigh.
