Dwayne Johnson fans should be very happy right now. The action star has been quite in demand lately, appearing in a number of movies. Journey 2: The Mysterious Island has already been released but he has GI Joe: Retaliation lined up for a summer release. He’s also in negotiations to star in Fast Six, another installment in the Fast & Furious franchise. He’s also preparing for his new role in Pain and Gain, a new movie to be directed by Michael Bay.
But if there’s a role that would be considered as perfect for Dwayne Johnson, it will have to be Hercules – and that’s a character he may just play very soon. He is in talks to appear in Hercules, a new adaptation of the Hercules mythos that will be directed by Brett Ratner.
The movie will be the adaptation of Hercules: The Thracian Wars by Steve Moore. The comic book tells the story of Hercules many years after he achieved glory in his adventures. He is summoned by the king of Thracia to help train the army as it prepares for war. He is promised gold and glory for his efforts, but Hercules will soon have a crisis of conscience and will try to seek redemption.
Johnson is the only person working in Hollywood right now who can give justice to the role. Jason Momoa could have been a contender but with Conan The Barbarian flopping, he’ll have to prove himself again before he is given another high profile project.
