Angelina Jolie is back on the silver screen, and she’s playing a very familiar yet menacing villain!
Her casting as the classic Disney villain, Maleficent, on the same-titled upcoming feature has been long confirmed, but it’s only now where we’re seeing bits and pieces of it coming together — namely, the teaser trailer! (WATCH IT HERE!)
Princess Aurora, played by Elle Fanning, mouths a naive banter to our lead, interspersed with clips leading to the iconic spinning wheel scene from Sleeping Beauty.
“I know who you are. You’ve been watching over me my whole life. I know you’re there. Your shadow, it’s been following me ever since I was small. Don’t be afraid,” she says.
Maleficent then replies, “Then you’ll be afraid.”
At the recent D23 expo, Jolie recounts that since as a girl, “Maleficent was always my favorite. She had this elegance and grace, and yet she was so cruel, just wonderfully and deliciously cruel.”
If that’s what we’re expecting from her portrayal, we have a masterpiece on our hands.
