It’s easy to goof on Barbara Walters and her slight lisp because she’s such a big, influential celebrity in her own right. But when it comes right down to it, Walters really is a respected TV journalist and host, evoking emotions from celebs that no one else seems capable of. So we’re pulling for when she undergoes heart valve surgery later this week.
Walters, now 80, says that she’s always been healthy and never missed a day of work. On The View today, she said that she’ll be in surgery to “replace one faulty heart valve” — something she’d kept secret up until today. She admitted to her co-hosts, who just found out about the surgery, that she hadn’t wanted to discuss it too far in advance. The timing of the surgery was something Walters picked, to coincide with summer, the recovery period of 1-3 months, and back to the show for September.
Walters, who has been with The View since 2002, and her co-hosts all received a Daytime Emmy Award in Aug 2009. Best of luck, Barbara.
