One of the stars of the hit comedy 40-Year-Old Virgin is on trial for the attempted murder of his ex-girlfriend. Shelley Malil allegedly stabbed his ex-girlfriend 23 times in August of 2008.
Shelley played Haziz in the 2005 comedy. During opening statements the prosecution painted a grim scene of the crime in which Malil allegedly caught Kendra Beebe drinking wine with another man on her back porch, the prosecution said:
“With the casual familiarity of a close friend Shelley Malil walked up to Kendra Beebe and stabbed her in the torso.”
After the other man wrestled away the knife, Malil went to the kitchen, grabbed another knife and continued stabbing her.
The prosecution also says Malil emailed naked pictures of the couple to Beebe’s co-worked and that he was “too possessive” according to Malil.
Malil’s attorney Matthew Roberts says the attack was not premeditated and that he was acting in “self-defense” yeah because we all know 23 stab wounds is self defense.
