1. To be directed by Rob Marshall, the movie is entitled Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and will feature flashbacks to Captain Jack Sparrow’s early life. Rob plans to take a “fresh approach” to the sequel, which will be released in 2011.
2. Johnny Depp signed a contract to star in the fourth franchise of Pirates of the Caribbean for a reported $33.6 million paycheck. “The fee jumps 46-year-old Depp ahead of the likes of Tom Hanks, Tom Cruise and Mel Gibson who demand and get around $32 million a film,” News.com reported.
3. Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley have opted out after the third movie, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End. Other actors such as Geoffrey Rush (who played Captain Barbossa) will be back on the team.
4. Penelope Cruz could take Keira Knightley’s spot as leading lady. According to MTV, Penelope is in discussions to land a role in the pirate flick.
