Now as word of Beyonce’s lip syncing the anthem to pre-recorded music has spread like wildfire, does her performance at President Obama’s inauguration feel like a big let down– her performance a little less authentic?
Everyone knows Beyonce has the pipes and the moves to pull off singing at such a major event. But why the backlash? Perhaps the recent admission to fraud and doping by Lance Armstrong has the public reeling from all the lies and the faker. And now the inaugural possibly tainted by a lip sync performance which seems to counter the ideals of what a Presidential inauguration stood for. But should it even matter?
A Marine Corps band spokeswoman did confirmed that pre-recorded tracks are part of their protocol,
“We prerecorded all music as a matter of course and have done since time immemorial. This is our 54th inauguration .… There is no question of there not being any music — it’s not because the performer cannot do it… All music is pre-recorded for the ceremony because there are so many eventualities and conditions that day.â€
Perhaps it was the moment when Beyonce dramatically pulled the plug off her earpiece and proceeded to belt “The Star-Spangled Banner†all out- as if flying blind- that really made us feel betrayed. The thought that she was actually lip syncing and miming the whole time seems so laughable now.
It was at this recording session posted on Beyonce’s Tumblr page that she really sang the track for the American national anthem
Apparently, Kelly Clarkson went for the raw real thing and performed ‘My Country Tis of Thee’ and chose not to use the pre-recorded track that she had as an option.
Kelly Clarkson has more guts, she took a risk at a historical event and the biting cold by singing live; a real American idol befitting a presidential inaugural.
Beyonce lip syncing or not: she did get a POTUS kiss of approval at the end of her performance.
