1. KATY PERRY IS A GEISHA
Katy goes stunningly Japanese for the performance of her next single “Unconditionally”. The colorful set, costumes, and confetti are the only way to jumpstart a great awards night! (WATCH IT HERE!)
2. JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE “DRINKS US AWAY”
JT is the man of the night, winning three awards — Favorite Pop/Rock Male Artist, Favorite Soul/R&B Male Artist, and Favorite Soul/R&B Album — and even crossing over to the country genre for a guitar-driven performance of “Drink You Away”. (WATCH IT HERE!)
3. LADY GAGA & R. KELLY GET IT ON…AGAIN
As if the SNL performance wasn’t enough, Gaga and R. Kelly continued getting intimate at the AMA’s. This time around, they channeled the famous JFK-Marilyn Monroe scandal, gamely portrayed on a performance of “Do What U Want”. (WATCH IT HERE!)
4. RIHANNA IS NOW AN ICON
Rihanna, at 25, receives the ‘Icon Award’ from her mom, Monica Braithwaite. As “the voice of our time” churning hits like Umbrella and Stay, at least according to Bill Maher, we can’t disagree! (WATCH HER PERFORMANCE + AWARD ACCEPTANCE HERE!)
5. IS LIL’ MAMA THE NEW LEFT EYE?
No, she’s not! But since she did good playing Lisa Lopes on the group’s VH1 biopic, it only felt natural to have her fill the spot temporarily in a nostalgia-inducing performance of “Waterfalls”. (WATCH IT HERE!)
6. MILEY CYRUS TEAMS UP WITH A…PUSSY
Miley goes from provocative to just plain bizarre in a new performance of “Wrecking Ball”, where the attention shifts to a virtual cat behind her, singing along to the heart-rending tune and crying out some diamonds afterwards. We don’t get it, though. (WATCH IT HERE!)
7. TAYLOR SWIFT HAS THE LAST LAUGH
